Step: 1
INSTRUCTIONS
Purse measures approximately 10-inches wide by 11-inches high by 1-1/2-inches deep, excluding handle.
Step: 2
GAUGE
In Stockinette stitch, 10 sts and 16 rows = 3-inches/7.6 cm
Gauge is not critical for this project.
Step: 3
SPECIAL TERMS
Intarsia Method
Use a double strand of yarn for each color section. When changing colors, bring new color up from under previous color to prevent a hole.

Sc2tog (dec): [Insert hook in next st and pull up a loop] twice, yo and draw through 3 loops on hookone st decreased.

STITCHES USED
Stockinette stitch (St st): Knit on RS, purl on WS.

Seed Stitch (multiple of 2 sts; 1-row repeat)

Row 1 (RS): * K1, p1; repeat from * across.

POMPONS (make nine, 2-inches in diameter)
Using Pompon Maker or piece of cardboard, make 1-A, 2-B, 2-C, 1-D, 1-E, 1-F, 1-G.

BACK (also see diagram)
Using a double strand of each color and Intarsia Method, cast on 36 sts - 12 sts G, 12 sts C, 12 sts B.
Step: 13
(RS) Begin St st, working each color section with a separate double strand of yarn; work even for 16 rows, end with a WS row. Cut G, C and B, leaving tails to weave in later.
Step: 14
(RS) Change to double strand of D, E, and F; work 12 sts, using each color in order given, in St st across; work even for 16 rows, end with a WS row. Cut D, E, and F, leaving tails to weave in later.
Step: 15
(RS) Change to double strand of C, B, and A; work 12 sts, using each color in order given, in St st across; work even for 16 rows, end with a WS row. Cut C, B, and A, leaving tails to weave in later.
Step: 16
Bind off all sts loosely.

FRONT
Work as for Back, reversing colors, if desired, so that same color blocks are aligned, Back and Front as shown on model.

BASE (make 1)
Using double strand of A, cast on 36 sts.
(RS) Begin Seed st; work even until Base measures 1-1/2-inches from the beg.

Bind off all sts.

SIDES (make 2)
Using double strand of A, cast on 5 sts.

(RS) Begin Seed st; work even until Side measures same length as side of Front/Back pieces; (approx 9 to 10 inches).

HANDLE
Using double strand of A, cast on 5 sts.

(RS) Begin Seed st; work even until Handle measures 19 inches from beg, or desired length.

FINISHING
Sew Base to Front and Back pieces. Sew sides and handle in place (see diagram)

Edging: Join double strand of A with a slip st to top of side inside one handle.

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in each st around entire top edge of purse, join with a slip st to first st. Note: Top edge flairs at this point.

Row 2: To reduce the flair: Ch 1, work another row of sc around, dec every third st by sc2tog, join with a slip st to first st.

Using tn, weave in ends. Attach Pompons to Front of Purse, matching colors of squares.
