Project Instructions

Getting Started

Do not use unbaked clay on unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Good work surfaces include wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275 °F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per 1/4” (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult.

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the clay dedicated pasta machine several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.

Step 1

Using approximately 3/8 of a package of Ultralight, roll it into a ball with your hands and then flatten it to make a 3” disk. Place cling wrap over the 3” disk and use the cutter to cut out the star shape. Bake and allow to cool completely.

Step 2

Using the pasta machine, roll out a sheet from 1/2 bar of Gold clay on a medium thickness setting. Lay the sheet on a flat surface and lightly mist with water.

Step 3

Press the swirl texture sheet into the surface of the clay. Use the Acrylic Clay Roller to roll over the texture sheet to make sure you get a good imprint. Gently remove the texture sheet from the clay to expose the new pattern. (Use a paper towel to remove any excess water from the clay surface.)

Step 4

With the Super Slicer nearly parallel to the surface of the clay, shave the raised portion of the texture away until the sheet surface is smooth. Use the Acrylic Roller to roll the sheet to even out the surface.

Step 5

Use the star shape cutter to cut out the shape from the patterned Gold clay. Press this piece on the back side of the ornament. Use the circle cutter to cut out a 3” disk. Smooth this piece on the top of the star, starting from the center and gently smooth the edges down to meet the back. Cut off any excess and use your finger to smooth the seam.

Step 6

Press the eye pin into the top of the star and bake according to the manufactures instructions and allow to cool. Once cool apply Sculpey Gloss with paint brush. Allow to dry completely. Add ribbon.

Baby wipes are the best way to clean up after playing with clay!!
