Project Instructions

Step: 1

SIZE
Puppets measure approximately 10-inches x 5-inches; Liner measures approximately 8¼-inches x 4½-inches.


Step: 2

GAUGE
16 sts= 4-inches; 17 rnds = 4-inches. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.


Step: 3

CHANGING COLOR IN SC
Work to one st before color change, draw up a loop in next st, drop color in use; with next color to be used yo and draw through 2 loops on hook.


Step: 4

NOTE
Puppet is worked in continuous rnds. Do not join at ends of rnds or ch at beginning of rnds unless otherwise directed. Mark beginning of rnds with a split-ring stitch marker.

NOSE

Rnd 1: 2 Sc in 2nd ch from hook, 2 sc in each of next 7 ch; working along opposite side of ch, sc in next 8 sts - 24 sc. Do not join - see Note above.

Rnds 2-7: Work even in sc, changing to A in last sc on Rnd 7. Cut C.

Rnd 8: Work even in sc with A.

Rnd 9: [Sc in next sc, skip next sc, sc in next sc] 8 times - 16 sc.

Puppet-Rnd 10: [2 Sc in next sc] 4 times, changing to B in last sc, cut A, with B [2 sc in next sc] 4 times working over B beginning yarn tail and changing to A in last sc, drop B, with A [2 sc in next sc] 8 times working over A beginning yarn tail - 32 sc.

PUPPET FINISHING
Sew thumb into opening matching stitch for stitch. With thumb centered and lying flat on underside of Puppet, fold nose towards top of Puppet and tack in place as pictured. Pinch sides of nose to form nostril indentations and tack in place. Cut four 5-inch pieces of B and knot into end of tail; trim. Slip st base of ear together. Cut eyes, nostrils, ear linings and horns from felt and glue in place, pinching center area of horns together as pictured. Sew base of ears in place near top of B area on Puppet. Weave in ends. Make liner and insert into Puppet.

With C, ch 4; join with a slip st to form a ring.

Cut eyes, tongue, and mouth from felt and glue in place as pictured. With D, stitch whiskers on both sides of nose. Slip st base of ear together. Sew ears in place. Weave in ends. Make liner.
