Project Instructions

GAUGE: In pattern, 15 sts = 4" (10 cm)
STITCH GUIDE
LONG DOUBLE CROCHET (abbreviated Ldc)
YO, insert hook from top to bottom in free loop of st one row below st indicated (Fig. A), YO and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), (YO and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice. Skip st behind Ldc.
Each row is worked
across length of Afghan with right side facing throughout. When joining yarn and finishing off, leave a
6" (15 cm) end to be worked into fringe.

AFGHAN
With Red, ch 264.
Row 1 (Right side): Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across; finish off: 263 sc.
Note: Loop a short piece of yarn around any stitch to mark Row 1 as right side.
Row 2: Join White with sc in both loops of first sc; sc in Back Loop Only (BLO) of next sc and
each sc across to last sc, sc in both loops of last sc; finish off.
Row 3: Join Red with sc in both loops of first sc; sc in BLO of next 3 sts, (work Ldc in next 3 sts, sc in BLO of next 3 sts) across to last sc, sc in both loops of last sc; finish off: 134 sc and 129 Ldc.
Row 4: Join White with sc in both loops of first sc; work Ldc in next st, sc in BLO of next st, work Ldc in next st, H sc in BLO of next 3 sts, work Ldc in next st, sc in BLO of next st, work Ldc in next st; repeat from H across to last sc, sc in both loops of last sc; finish off: 175 sc and 88 Ldc.
Row 5: Join Red
with sc in both
loops of first sc;

Row 7: Join Red with sc in both loops of first sc; work Ldc in next 3 sts, (sc in BLO of next 3 sts, work Ldc in next 3 sts) across to last sc, sc in both loops of last sc; finish off: 131 sc and 132 Ldc.
Row 8: Join White with sc in both loops of first sc; sc in BLO of next 3 sts, H work Ldc in next st, sc in BLO of next st, work Ldc in next st, sc in BLO of next 3 sts; repeat from H across to last sc, sc in both loops of last sc; finish off: 177 sc and 86 Ldc.
Row 9: Join Red with sc in both loops of first sc; work Ldc in next 3 sts, (sc in BLO of next 3 sts, work Ldc in next 3 sts) across to last sc, sc in both loops of last sc; finish off: 131 sc and 132 Ldc.
Row 10: Join White with sc in both loops of first sc; sc in BLO of next st and each st across to last sc, sc in both loops of last sc; finish off: 263 sc.
Repeat Rows 3-10 for pattern until Afghan measures approximately 50" (127 cm) from beginning ch, ending by working Row 5.
Last Row: With right side facing and working in both loops across entire row, join Red with sc in first sc; sc in each st across; finish off.
Holding 2 strands of each color together, each 12" (30.5 cm) long, add additional fringe in
every other row across short edges of Afghan (Figs. B & C).
