Project Instructions

Step: 1

Protect work surface with plastic tablecloth.

Step: 2

Prewash T-shirt to remove sizing; do not use fabric softener. Lay damp T-shirt on work surface.

Step: 3

Wearing gloves from kit, add water to dye bottles, filling to line. Replace caps tightly and shake until dye is dissolved.

Step: 4

Pour dyes into disposable cups.

Step: 5

Dip foam brush into Blue dye and draw a peace symbol with the chisel of brush.

Step: 6

Dip other brush into Red dye and dab a ring around the edges of peace symbol with the chisel of brush.

Step: 7

Dip third brush into Yellow dye and dab a ring around edges of Red ring.

Step: 8

Dab a ring of Blue around edges of Yellow ring and continue to complete the shirt as shown. The dye will soak through to back of the shirt so that the entire shirt is dyed.

Step: 9

Cover T-shirt with plastic tablecloth and let set 6 to 8 hours or longer for most intense colors. Rinse in warm water until water runs clear.

Step: 10

Fill washer to large load setting with hottest water suitable for fabric and a small amount of non-bleach laundry detergent. Wash and dry separately.

Step: 11

Lay dry shirt flat on work surface and cut fringe along the bottom of shirt, 3-inch long and ½-inch apart.

Step: 12

Option: Cut strips from an old white T-shirt to create a headband and wristband, and dye using the same process described above.

Make sure to fully cover dyed fabric with plastic tablecloth or plastic wrap to keep fabric damp while dye sets.
