Project Instructions

Step 1 Using a 12" ruler and scissors, measure and cut 3½"x12" and ½"x12" pieces of Sandcastle paper. To wrap jar, apply Elmer's® Washable School Glue Stick to back of 3½" wide strip and wrap around center of jar, overlapping ends at back. Hold momentarily. (Hint: If using thick scrapbook paper that tends to pop away from jar, temporarily use rubber band to hold until glue sets.) Similarly wrap and glue ½" wide strip around jar band. Set aside to dry.

Step 2 With pencil, trace jar lid on Ticket To Ride paper. Cut out and glue paper to lid using glue stick. Set aside. With 8" scissors and ruler, crop photo into 2½" square. Measure and cut 3" square from Ticket To Ride paper. Use glue stick to mount photo on paper.

Step 3 To make banner, free-hand draw pattern on copy paper as follows: Refer to photo to sketch 5" long banner by making a sweeping curve, starting at "bottom of hill" and drawing to "top of hill". To make parallel line, make several marks 1" below curved line. Draw lower curved line connecting marks. Cut out banner pattern and "V-notch" cuts in both ends. Trace pattern onto Ticket To Ride paper and cut out. Use marker to write "Reward Jar!".

Step 4 To assemble, use glue stick to attach mounted photo and banner to front of jar. Close jar with lid and ring.

Step 5 Measure and cut 8½"x11" piece Ticket To Ride paper. Set aside. Hand write or use computer to type child’s name and CHORE CHART. Below, in smaller point size, list chores to do with enough space for pictures. Print out on copy paper.

Step 6 Hand draw or use computer to search Internet for Chore Chart drawings/icons. Print on copy paper and cut out. Use glue stick to attach icons to chart. Trim chart to 7½"x 10". Use glue stick glue to mount chart to scrapbook paper. Insert into sign holder. As child completes chores, give tokens that can be redeemed for rewards and privileges.
