 Fondant Smoother, small

Fondant Smoother

 

Material List

  • 1 Box Mix Cake, any flavor, baked in 12 muffin cups & 3 large muffin cups or popover pan
  • 1 plastic piping bag
  • 1 large Wilton tip (#4b or #6b)
  • Wilton Fondant, white or choice of color
  • 1 small rolling pin
  • 1 Wilton Decorating Tip, #5
  • 1 Wilton Fondant Cutter/Embosser
  • 1 Wilton Fondant Smoother
  • Sprinkles, in golden or sand color
  • 1 Wilton SeaLife Fondant & Gumpaste Mold
  • Large gold nonpareils, if desired
  • 2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 mini cakes, baked in large muffin or popover pan
 

Project Instructions

Buttercream Frosting

Step 1: Cream butter with mixer and slowly add heavy cream
Step 2: Beat for 3-4 minutes. Add powdered sugar and vanilla
Step 3: Beat on medium/high speed for 5 minutes
Step 4: Add more cream if too stiff or more powdered sugar if too loose
Step 5: Place buttercream frosting into disposable piping bag fitted with Wilton Tip #6B or #4B

Sandbucket Minicakes

Step 1: After baking 3 large muffins (I used a popover pan, but a large muffin or cupcake tin will work), allow to cool, then lightly ice each, upside down, as seen



Step 2: Roll out a large circle of colored fondant; cover iced muffin and smooth sides using the fondant smoother. Trim excess fondant using the cutter/embosser tool. If desired, cut a small circle of fondant to place on the inverted mini-cake and attach with a small drop of water to adhere

Step 3: This piece will act as the base of your sandbucket. Invert the cake
Step 4: Roll out a section of white fondant thoroughly, ¼ inch in thickness and 6 inches in length
Step 5: Cut strips ¾ inch wide to make the handles for the sandbucket
Step 6: Emboss using the cutter/embosser tool, then use the #5 tip to punch a hole at the end of each strip

Step 7: Round off the edges of your handles using the large edge of the tip, if desired
Step 8: Place handles on their sides in an arc to dry before using, roughly 1-2 hours
Step 9: Color additional fondant in coordinating colors or party theme colors and press into Sealife Fondant and Gumpaste Mold, creating shells, starfish, and other desired shapes for decoration
Step 10: Allow to dry roughly 1-2 hours


To Assemble Sandbuckets

Step 1: Pipe buttercream into the open end of each fondant covered sandbucket, making a swirl pattern in a single layer
Step 2: Sprinkle with sanding sugars
Step 3: Place dried fondant handles either into the icing or apply to the outside of each bucket using a dot of water to adhere
Step 4: Add prepared seashells and large nonpareils as desired


To Assemble Cupcakes

Step 1: Spread a small amount of butter cream atop each of the 12 cupcakes, then roll each, icing side down, in a bowl of golden colored sprinkles to coat
Step 2: Pipe a large swirl of buttercream on top of the gold sprinkles
Step 3: Add prepared seashells/starfish and large nonpareils as desired
