Project Instructions

Step: 1

In Advance: Make bow loops to top each cake. For 6 inch cake, you will need 12 strips each of silver and gold wired ribbon, 5 1/2 inches long. Fold silver strips into loops and attach with tip 2 and royal icing. Repeat with gold strips, attaching over the silver strips to make 12 loops.

Step: 2

For 10 inch cake, you'll need 16 strips each of the silver and gold wired ribbon, 7 inches long to make the 16 loops. For 14 inch cake, you'll need 20 strips each, 11 1/4 inches long to make 20 loops. Assemble and set aside.

Step: 3

Cake Preparation: Bake and cool 2 layer 6, 10, and 14 inch round cakes. Prepare cakes for rolled fondant by covering with buttercream. Cover with fondant and smooth with Easy-Glide Smoothers.

Step: 4

For 6 inch tier, use the Cake Dividing Set to divide cake into eighths, then divide each of those sections into fourths, for a total of 32 sections. Cut 16 6 inch lengths of 4mm pearls, and 8 6 inch lengths each of silver and gold ribbon. Attach with royal icing to cake side in alternating pearl/silver ribbon/pearl/gold ribbon pattern. Twist double strands, 22 inches long, or 6mm pearl beads together with gold ribbon and attach to bottom border with royal icing.

Step: 5

For 10 inch tier, use Cake Dividing Set to divide cake into sixteenths, and then divide those sections into halves for a total of 32 sections. Cut 16 8 1/2 inch lengths of 4mm pearls, and 8 lengths each of silver and gold ribbon. Attach with royal icing as on 6 inch tier. Twist double strands, 35 inches long, of 6mm pearl beads together with gold ribbon and attach to bottom border with royal icing.

Step: 6

For 14 inch tier, use Cake Dividing Set to divide cake into twelfths, and then divide those sections into quarters, for a total of 48 sections. Cut 24 11 inch lengths of 4mm pearls, and 12 11 inch lengths each of silver and gold ribbon. Attach to cake side with royal icing as above. Twist double strands, 50 inches long, of 6mm pearl beads together with gold ribbon and attach to bottom border with royal icing.

Step: 7

For all cakes, assemble loops into bow, attaching at center with tip 4 royal icing.

Step: 8

At the Reception: Position cakes on stand, and position figure on top. Decorate table using 15 additional packages of 4mm and 6mm pearls.

Tips

This cake serves 116. The top tier of a wedding cake is often saved for the first anniversary, so this number of servings does not include the top tier.
