Project Instructions

Prepare your work surface by covering it with wax paper or newspaper.

Using a thermometer and pouring container, melt soy wax according to package instructions. Always use a double boiler to melt wax.

Color wax by shaving dye block into the melted wax. Use a dowel or wooden spoon to stir the wax until the dye has completely melted. Check color by placing a few drops of the wax onto a white piece of paper. If making a layered candle, make sure you have colored wax and non-colored wax (for creating new colors). Or, any two colors of wax you choose.

Adhere wick to the inside of the glass container using Wick Keepers tabs. Once the wick is in place, make sure it is straight and secure it to the top of the mold using a pencil, dowel, or wick bar.

To create a horizontal layered look, start by pouring approximately 6 oz. of wax in your first color. Let cool until the top has set up. Now you can pour your next layer in an alternate color. Repeat, making sure to use the same amount of wax in each layer so that all the layers look uniform.

To create a vertical layered look, pour all one color into the glass container and let set for approximately 30 minutes to an hour (should have at least 1/2" solid wax against the inside edge of the container). Then carefully take butter knife and cut wax skim off of the top of the candle. Next, pour remaining wax back into the container you poured from. Gently use a butter knife or metal spoon and scrape out vertical lines along grooves on inside of glass container. Do this along every other groove. Once done, you can pour your contrasting color into the glass container and let the candle cool completely.

Once the candle has cooled and is set, trim the wick to 1/4". Now you are ready to enjoy your candle.

Tips

Make additional colors using dye blocks from the value pack. For example, mix blue and yellow for a lime green, mix red and yellow for orange.
