Project Instructions
GAUGE
9 sts = about 4". (10 cm) in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd).
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.
Note: When knitting in the round on double pointed needles (dpns), your sts need to be divided fairly evenly onto the needles. If you are working with a set of four dpn, your sts should be divided among three needles. If you are working with a set of five dpn, your sts should be divided among four needles. The total number of sts will not always be evenly divisible by the number of dpns that you are using – this is not a problem! Simply divide your sts as evenly as possible, you will still create an asymmetrical ‘tube’ of knitting.
HAT
Cast on 40 sts. Divide sts onto four needles (10 sts on each needle). Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts.
Work in St st in the rnd (k every rnd) until piece measures 4" (10 cm) from beg.
Shape Crown (top of hat)
Rnd 1: *K6, k2tog; rep from * around – 35 sts at the end of this rnd.
Rnds 2-4: Knit.
Rnd 5: *K5, k2tog; rep from * around – 30 sts at the end of this rnd.
Rnds 6 and 7: Knit.
Rnd 8: *K4, k2tog; rep from * around – 25 sts at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 9: Knit.
Rnd 10: *K3, k2tog; rep from * around – 20 sts at the end of this rnd.
Rnds 11-13: Knit.
Rnd14: *K2, k2tog; rep from * around – 15 sts at the end of this rnd.
Rnds15 and 16: Knit.
Rnd17: *K1, k2tog; rep from * around – ten sts at the end of this rnd.
Rnds 18-22: Knit.
Rnd 23: *K2tog; rep from * around – five sts at the end of this rnd.
Rnds 24 and 25: Knit.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining sts and pull to gather. Knot securely.
FINISHING
Weave in ends.
