Project Instructions
Step: 1
Note
Adult supervision is required at all times; only an adult should cut foam with serrated knife.
Step: 2
Soccer Ball
Wax plastic knife with candle stub or paraffin; cut foam ball in half. Reserve one half for second memo clip.
Step: 3
Refer to the photo to lightly draw a soccer ball pattern onto the curved side of the half-ball; each pentagon shape has 1¼-inch sides. Begin at the center top and work down, alternating pattern placement. Firmly retrace pencil lines with dull pencil.
Step: 4
Refer to the photo to paint alternating pentagons with black; let dry completely. Glue a clothespin to the center of a cardboard square and the soccer ball to the top of the clothespin.
Step: 5
Baseball
Firmly press a foam ball against the work surface to slightly flatten the bottom to prevent it from rolling around.
Step: 6
Lightly draw a 3-inch circle in the center of opposite sides of the ball; retrace the lines with a dull pencil.
Step: 7
Wax the plastic knife with a candle stub or paraffin. Cut the ball in half across the center of the circles. Paint each half-ball with white; let dry completely. When dry, use a red pen to redraw the lines and to add stitching as shown.
Step: 8
Glue magnets to the inside center of each half-ball, being sure to test the direction of the attraction to ensure proper magnet placement.
Step: 9
Glue the bottom of one half-ball to the center of a cardboard square. Place message between the halves, secured by magnets.
