  • Stitch Nation by Debbie Stoller™ “Full o’ Sheep™”: 1 ball each 2205 Little Lamb A and 2012 Black Sheep B
  • Crochet Hooks: 4mm [US G-6] and 3.75mm [US F-5]
  • Yarn Needle
 

Project Instructions

Bootie measures 4½" long x 2" at widest part. Directions are for size 9-12 months. 

GAUGE: 20 sts = 4" in sc rounds. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge. 

Special Abbreviations
Inc (increase) = 2 sc in next sc.
Dec (decrease) = draw up a loop in next 2 sts, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook. 

NOTE: Booties are worked using a smaller than recommended hook size in order to obtain a tight gauge. 

BOOTIES

Sole
With larger hook and A, ch 13.

Round 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 10 ch, 3 sc in last ch, sc in 10 ch on opposite side of beginning ch, 3 sc in last ch; join with a slip st in first sc – 27 sc.

Round 2: Ch 1, inc in same sc as joining, * sc in next 10 sc, [inc] 3 times; repeat from * once more; join – 34 sc.

Round 3: Ch 1, inc in same sc as joining, inc in next sc, sc in next 9 sc, hdc in next 2 sc, [inc] 5 times, hdc in next 2 sc, sc in next 9 sc, [inc] twice, sc in next 3 sc; join – 43 sts.

Round 4: Ch 1, inc in same sc as joining, [inc] twice, sc in next 11 sts, hdc in next 3 sts, [2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 3 sts] twice, sc in next 13 sts, [inc] twice, sc in next 3 sts; join – 50 sts.

Round 5: Ch 2, working in back loops only hdc in each st around; join in top of ch-2. Fasten off. 

Bootie Upper
Round 1: Attach B in same st as joining; ch 1, working in back loops only, sc in each st around; join.
Rounds 2 and 3: Ch 1, sc in each sc around; join. Fasten off. 

Ankle
Row 1: Skip next 33 sc of last round, join B in next sc; ch 1, sc in same sc, hdc in next 28 sc, sc in next sc; turn – 30 sts.
Row 2: Ch 1, dec, sc in next 7 sts, [dec] twice, sc in next 4 sts, [dec] twice, sc in next 7 sts, dec – 24 sts. Fasten off. 

Toe Piece
Round 1: With larger hook and B, ch 2; 6 sc in 2nd ch from; join in first sc.
Round 2: Ch 1, [inc] 6 times; join – 12 sc.
Round 3: Ch 1, [inc, sc in next sc] 6 times; join – 18 sc.
Round 4: Ch 1, [inc, sc in next 2 sc] 6 times; join – 24 sc.
Row 5: Ch 1, sc in next 8 sc; TURN.
Row 6: Ch 2, hdc in first 7 sc, 2 hdc in last sc – 11 sts. Fasten off leaving long tail for sewing.

Skull Appliqué
Row 1: With smaller hook and A, ch 4; sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 2 ch; turn – 3 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, inc, sc in next sc, inc; turn – 5 sc.
Rows 3 and 4: Ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn.
Row 5: Ch 1, skip first sc, sc in next 2 sc, dec – 3 sc. Fasten off leaving long tail for sewing.

Finishing
Weave in ends. Sew ends of Rows 5 and 6 of Toe to ends of Rows 1 and 2 of Ankle; ease remaining sts of Toe to Bootie Upper.

Embroider eye sockets onto skull head with A. Sew finished skull to upper portion of the toe area. Embroider crossbones by making 2 long running stitches. Tack stitches together at intersection with yarn. Add French Knots at each bone end.
