Storybook Birdhouse Project
A handmade gift is a wonderful way to show you care. This simple project transforms an ordinary, unpainted wood bird house into something almost magical---a perfect decorative touch for any nursery.
Designed by Danny Seo.
- Unfinished Wood Birdhouse
- Hardcover, worn out childrens storybook
- Staple Gun and Staples
- Small Sponge Brush
- A Decoupage Glue like Mod Podge
First, choose a children’s book that is large enough to fold over the roof of the birdhouse, and cover it completely.
Remove all the pages from inside the book and set aside; staple gun the book jacket directly onto the roof; one staple on the left and right side of the roof should hold it.
Trim the pages of the book to fit along the sides of the bird house; generously use the decoupage glue to adhere the paper to the birdhouse and then coat additional glue on top; it will dry clear and create a protective coating.
Overlap pages on top of pages until the entire house is covered. Let it dry completely.
To make it waterproof for outside use, you can add a layer of varnish onto the finished birdhouse.
