STITCH EXPLANATION

sc2tog (sc 2 sts together) Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook – 1 st decreased.

NOTES

Body of Tote is worked in continuous rnds, with RS facing throughout; do not join or turn unless otherwise instructed.
Handles are worked back and forth in rows.
To change color, work last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete st. Fasten off old color.

TOTE

With A, ch 2.

Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in first ch. Place marker in first st for beg of rnd; move marker up as each rnd is completed.

Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each st around – 12 sts at the end of this rnd.

Rnd 3: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st; rep from * around – 18 sts.

Rnd 4: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts; rep from * around – 24 sts.

Rnd 5: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts; rep from * around – 30 sts.

Rnd 6: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 4 sts; rep from * around – 36 sts.

Rnd 7: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 5 sts; rep from * around – 42 sts.

Place a marker in the first sc of each of the 2-sc groups.

NOTES

The markers indicate where increases (2 sc in same st) will be worked and beg of rnd marker indicates the first increase location.
You may wish to use a different color for the increase markers than for the beg of rnd marker.
As each increase is worked, move the markers to the first sc in the 2-sc.

Rnds 8-29: *2 sc in marked st, sc in each st to next marked st; rep from * around; change to B in last st of Rnd 29 – 174 sts at the end of Rnd 29. Fasten off A and remove increase markers.

Rnds 30–37: With B, sc in each st around; change to A in last st of Rnd 37.

Rnds 38–45: With A, sc in each st around; change to B in last st of Rnd 45.

Rep Rnds 30–45 three more times.

Rep Rnds 30-37 once more. Fasten off B.

First Handle

With RS of Tote facing, sk first 21 sts of last rnd, join A with sl st in next st.

Row 1 (RS): With A, sc in next 45 sts; leave remaining sts unworked – 45 sts for first handle.

Work over first handle sts only.

Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sk first sc, sc2tog, sc in each sc across to last 2 sc, sc2tog (3 sts decreased) – 42 sts at the end of this row.

Rows 3-8: Rep Row 2 – 24 sts at end of Row 8.

Row 9: Ch 37, turn, sk first 23 sts, sl st in last st.

Fasten off.

Second Handle

With RS of Tote facing, sk 42 unworked sts of last rnd of Tote, following first handle, and join A with sl st in next st.

Rep Rows 1–9 for second handle. Do not fasten off.

Edging

Rnd 1: With RS facing, work 8 sc evenly spaced down side edge of second handle, sc in next 42 sts of last rnd of Tote, work 8 sc evenly spaced up side edge of first handle, sc in next 37 ch, work 8 sc evenly spaced down side edge of first handle, sc in next 42 sts of last rnd of Tote, work 8 sc evenly spaced up side edge of second handle, sc in next 37 ch – 190 sts.

Rnds 2-8: Do not join, working in continuous rnds, sc in each sc around.

Fasten off.

FINISHING

Weave in ends.
