Wash shirts without softener to remove sizing.
Cover work surface with plastic tablecloth. Place damp shirts on surface then smooth flat.
Wearing gloves from dye kit, fill dye bottles with water to indicated line then shake until each is thoroughly mixed.
Working in a vertical motion, squeeze Gray onto lower 2/3 of extra large shirt. Fill in remainder with Purple, working in a vertical motion to create an uneven line next to Gray as shown.
To create top of dress, start at edge of one sleeve on fitted T-shirt and gather fabric to same point on other side of shirt. Place a zip tie from kit around gathered section and pull tight. Repeat step about 3-inches from first.
Squeeze Black dye within first two sections, turning fabric and inserting tip of dye bottle into folds. Add dye to fabric about 3-inches past last zip tie and then fill in remainder with Purple dye.
Cover dyed shirts with another plastic tablecloth to keep damp. Let set 6 to 8 hours or longer for most intense color. Use scissors to carefully cut off zip ties. Fully rinse dyed fabric under warm running water until extra dye is removed and water runs clear. Fill washer to large load setting with hottest water suitable for fabric and a small amount of laundry soap.
Dry in dryer then iron smooth. Place extra large shirt on clean plastic tablecloth. Squeeze Black dye into plastic container then dip one edge of dry sponge from kit into dye. Pounce dye onto lower section of Gray dyed area where shown, adding more paint to sponge as needed. Flip over and repeat step on back of shirt.
Let set 6 to 8 hours then repeat step for washing and drying.
To create skirt, use scissors to cut extra large shirt from each side hem straight up to shoulder seams, cutting off sleeves then across shirt just under neckline, creating two large rectangle shapes.
To create top of dress, cut off sleeves of smaller shirt, then cut off neck binding, scooping front neckline. Cut across shirt about 5-inches down from under arm seam.
Sew two dress panels together, lining up hems. Trim edge across top to even up if needed. Sew two lines of gather stitches along top edge. Gather to fit lower edge of top shirt, pin to secure then sew in place. Remove gather stitches.
