Project Instructions

Wash and dry tee. Press with iron.

Enlarge USA pattern to desired size.

Cut piece of freezer paper wide enough to fit “USA” pattern with approximately 3” borders around letters.

Trace USA in center of freezer paper with pencil. Place tracing on cutting surface and cut out with craft knife to create a stencil.

Position stencil on tee (shiny side down) and iron on. Make sure edges are well sealed.

Place Tulip® Fashion Form between layers of tee.

Beginning from the letter “U”, squiggle horizontal lines of Bright Red (does not need to be solid lines). Next add horizontal lines of White from midway of the “U” and into the “S”. Add Blue lines going into the A.

Using flat side of palette knife, moving horizontally, gently press colors into each other moving across to keep the colors pure. Clean palette knife with paper towel with each usage to prevent colors from becoming muddy.

After desired look is achieved, use sharp edge of the palette knife and run several random lines across the USA. Let dry.

Remove freezer paper stencil.

There are many looks you can achieve with a palette knife technique. You can also use a wide-tooth comb, combing through the wet paint in waves, lines and swirls. Remember to wipe tool after each use as colors may become muddy.
