Project Instructions

1. For STOP Sign, use pencil to trace full size pattern onto copy paper. Cut out with X-ACTO® 8" Scissors. Trace solid line onto Elmer's® Foam Board. Use an X-ACTO® Retractable #1 Knife (with new blade) and 12" Metal Ruler on Self Healing Cutting Mat to cut Foam Board. (Hint: Score lightly first and then press more firmly to cut deeper, with several passes of the Retractable Knife. Replace blade often.) Trace dotted line of pattern on Red paper and cut out with Scissors. Apply CraftBond™ Extra Strength Glue Stick to entire surface of paper sign and center onto Foam Board.

2. For STOP sign letters, there are several options: A) Use White Painters® marker to draw letters on sign. OR B) Select font on computer, print out and use as a pattern to cut letters from cardstock. (Note: Font used in photo is "Highway Gothic", which is a free download from www.dafont.com.) Then position and use Glue Stick to attach letters to sign. OR C) Use die cutting machine according to manufacturer's instructions.

3. Ask hardware store, or use handsaw, to cut pipe into 32" length. For base, use a Retractable Knife (with new blade) and 12" Metal Ruler on Cutting Mat to cut 10", 8" and 6" squares of Foam Board. Find center of 6" square and use pencil to draw around soup can to mark center opening. (Note: The can will be inserted into finished base and should fit snuggly so use a Retractable Knife to cut opening slightly smaller than marked line.) Similarly find center of remaining squares and cut openings. Stack squares, with center openings aligned and secure with Glue Stick. Insert can into base. Insert pipe into can. Fill extra space between can and pipe with small scraps of Foam Board wedged down in. (Check that pipe is straight - perpendicular to floor.) Use a glue gun to attach as needed. In a well-ventilated, newspaper-covered area, spray pipe and base with Super Silver. Let dry.

4. Use a glue gun to attach another can (upside down) to back of sign, adjusting height of can to achieve desired height of sign. Then place can of sign onto top of pipe.

5. For SLOW Sign, use pencil to mark 12" square on Foam Board. As with STOP Sign, cut out. Measure and mark an 11 1/2" square on Yellow cardstock and use Scissors to cut. Use Glue Stick to attach Sign to Foam Board. As with STOP Sign, use chosen method to make letters from Black and attach to sign.Similarly, follow Steps 3 and 4 to finish sign.

6. For YIELD Sign, follow STOP Sign, steps 1 – 4, following solid line to cut Foam Board, dotted line to cut Red cardstock and dot/dash line to cut White cardstock. Use chosen method to make letters from Red and attach to sign. Similarly, follow Steps 3 and 4 to finish sign.
