Project Instructions

Cut a 2 yard piece of hemp. Thread button onto the 2 yard (20 lb) piece of hemp and fold hemp in half. Position button at the fold. Make an overhand knot close to the underside of button to hold button in place. These two strands will be the “anchor” strands of the bracelet.

Cut a 3 yard piece of hemp and fold in half. Attach to the “anchor” strands by tying (at fold) right below the overhand knot below the button. Pull tight. These 10lb strands will be the “stringing” strands and will hold the beads in place between the anchor strands.

Attach the top of the bracelet to a sturdy holder (such as the clip of a clipboard) so bracelet can be easily assembled from top downward. Position the stringing strands to either side, leaving the anchor strands hanging down in the middle.

Take the left stringing strand and thread (left to right) through one pearl E bead. Take right stringing strand and thread (right to left) through the same bead. Pull stringing strands tight so bead is held in place. Then move these strands under the anchor strands and to either side (stringing strand that was on the left is now on the right, stringing strand that was on the right is now on the left).

Take the stringing strand from the left (left-side anchor strand is over it), bring forward and thread (left to right) through another pearl E bead, catching the left-side anchor strand. Take the stringing strand from the right (right-side anchor is over it), bring forward and thread (right to left) through the same pearl E bead, catching the right-side anchor strand. Again, pull stringing strands tight to hold the bead in place and then move the stringing strands under the anchor strands and to either side.

Continue adding pearl E beads in this manner until bracelet is desired length. We used 126 pearls (reserving 2 for finishing the bracelet), but pearls can be added or taken out depending on the length needed for finished bracelet.

Once last pearl E bead is added, collect the stringing and anchor strands together and tie all strands in an overhand knot. Make another overhand knot about ¾" from last knot (this ¾" loop will hold the button and serve as the “clasp”). To finish, hold one 10lb strand and one 20lb strand together and thread one pearl E bead onto both strands. Knot the strands and trim. Repeat with the last E bead, threading onto the last two strands. Knot and trim.

To wear, wrap bracelet around wrist three times. Insert button through ¾" loop to clasp.

Completed bracelet measures approximately 21” long, wrapping around wrist three times.

Tips

This popular bracelet style is everywhere! Change colors of hemp or beads to suit your taste. Would look great with multicolored beads, too.
