Project Instructions

With Elmer's® Guide-Line Tri-Fold Foam Board still folded, use an X-ACTO® Gripster® Knife (with new blade) and 12” Metal Ruler on Self Healing Cutting Mat to measure and cut 6" off one short end to yield a 12" square. (Hint: Score lightly first and then press more firmly to cut deeper, with several passes of the knife. Replace blade often.) Set aside 6" length to use later for box ends and supports. Use the same tools to make the following Foam Board cuts. Make two vertical cuts in Foam Board to remove the 3/8" wide gap between the side wings. (Now there are two separate pieces.) Open one piece and cut 1 1/2" x 12" strip off one edge, parallel to hinge. Repeat to cut strip off other Foam Board.

Use X-ACTO® Rotary Paper Trimmer to cut two 10 1/2" x 12" "Bird Heart Stripe" paper. To cover what will be inside of box, place two Foam Boards on work surface with grid/hinge side up (cut side of hinge, down). Apply CraftBond™ All Purpose Glue Stick to surface of one Foam Board and cover with "Bird Heart Stripe" paper, (brown side up). Repeat to attach paper to other piece.

Before gluing practice how to assemble box, with paper on inside. Note that wide sides become bottom and top of box, and foam edge of one short flap rests on paper side of bottom. Also, top flat will rest on foam edge of other side. Use a glue gun to glue to one 12" edge of the 4 1/2" side and quickly press it onto paper side of 6" side of second Foam Board, aligning carefully.

For two 4 1/2" x 5 3/4" box ends and three "Lid Ends / Center Support" (see pattern) carefully plan and trace onto 6” piece that was removed and set aside in the first step. (Be sure all five pieces fit before cutting them out.) Set aside "Lid Ends / Center Support" until later.

Fit box ends in place, noting how they fit into box. Apply hot glue to foam edge of one piece and insert into end of box, being sure not to glue top lid down. Repeat with other end.

Use Paper Trimmer to cut following papers from "Bird Heart Stripe": 4 1/2" x 12" Front; 4 3/4" x 12" Back; 6" x 12" Bottom; and two 4 5/8" x 6 1/4" for Ends. Apply CraftBond™ All Purpose Glue Stick to areas on box and cover with corresponding papers, ivory (not brown) side out. (Note: Don’t cover top yet.)

For curved box top, trace two Foam Board Lid Ends on "The Reasons I Love You" paper. Cut out with X-ACTO® 8" Scissors and use Glue Stick to attach. Use a glue gun to attach Lid Ends to box lid, paper sides out. Half way between Lid Ends, hot glue the Center Support (uncovered Foam Board piece).

Use Paper Trimmer to cut 2 1/4" from top "The Reasons I Love You" paper, removing words and discarding. Use CraftBond™ Permanent Tape Runner to apply adhesive along curved edge of end supports. Use a glue gun to apply glue to lower front edge of lid. Carefully attach border end of paper to front of lid, wrapping around to back. (Note: There is no adhesive on center support.) Apply additional hot glue at back edge of lid to secure paper. (Note: Foam Board hinge will remain uncovered.)

In a well-ventilated, newspaper-covered area, spray handles with primer and then with one to two light coats Cinnabar, letting dry between coats. To attach, position handle on one short Side and mark placement of screws. Measure and mark on inside and use screwdriver to thread screws into handle. Repeat on other short Side. On inside, attach brads to cover screw heads.

For tag, use Paper Trimmer to cut 1 1/2" x 3" "The Reasons I Love You"; 1 1/4" x 2 3/4" and 3/4" x 2 3/8" "Love Stripe". Apply "Best Friends" rub-on to matteboard sticker and mount onto cut papers. Refer to photo to attach to front, right side of box using two layers CraftBond™ Foam Mounting Tape.

Stack and use CraftBond™ Glue Spots, Pop-up Medium, to attach smaller button on top of the larger and to attach to front of box. Attach heart shaped jewels to front of lid.
