Valentine's Shadow Frame

  • Cricut Expression® Personal Electronic Cutter
  • Cricut® A Child's Year Cartridge
  • Cricut Simply Sweet Cartridge
  • Cardstock: Green, Green Glitter, Dark Pink, Light Pink, Pink Glitter, Pink and Green Patterned, Dark Brown, Tan
  • Pink and Green Patterned Ribbon (1-yard)
  • Buttons: Green (2), Red (1)
  • Embroidery Floss: Light Pink, Dark Pink
  • Shadow Frame with 9½-inch x 5¾-inch opening
  • Sanding Oval
  • Sandpaper
  • Acrylic Paint: White or Pale Pink
  • Paintbrush
  • Spray Sealer
  • Paper Trimmer
  • Scissors
  • Double-sided Tape
  • Foam Mounting Squares
  • Glue Gun and Glue Sticks

Project Instructions

Step: 1

Sand frame and wipe away crumbs. Apply two coats of paint. Let dry.

Step: 2

Create base: Cut one 10 3/8-inch x 6 5/8-inch block of tan cardstock. Cut one 10 1/8-inch x 6 3/8-inch block of green cardstock. Cut one 9¼-inch x 5 5/8-inch block of light pink cardstock. Cut one 8¾-inch x 5¼-inch block of dark pink cardstock. Layer over one another using doubled foam mounting squares.

Step: 3

Cut main image: Using A Child's Year cartridge and dark brown cardstock, cut one 5-inch <Vlntines>. Repeat cut using pink glitter cardstock. Cut out hearts from pink glitter cut and layer over dark brown cut using foam mounting squares. Adhere image to base using double foam mounting squares.

Step: 4

Cut XOXO: Using Simply Sweet cartridge and pink and green patterned cardstock, cut 2-inch letters to spell XOXO. Repeat cuts using green cardstock and Shadow feature. Layer letters, using center of the Os, not the actual Os. Tie dark pink embroidery floss into bows through green buttons. Adhere buttons to Os using glue gun.

Step: 5

Cut heart and flowers: Using green glitter cardstock, press Shift and cut one 1½-inch <heart1>. Using green cardstock, cut one 3½-inch <flower>. Using pink and green patterned cardstock, cut one 3-inch <flower>. Layer heart over patterned flower using double-sided tape. Layer patterned flower over green flower using foam mounting squares. Tie light pink embroidery floss into a bow through red button. Adhere to center of heart using glue gun.

Step: 6

Spray dry frame with sealer. Let dry.

Step: 7

Adhere green and pink patterned ribbon to right hand side and bottom of frame as shown. Adhere flower to upper right hand corner. Adhere XOXO to bottom left of frame using foam mounting squares. Place base in frame.
