Project Instructions

  1. Have students research select Washington, DC, landmarks to match stickers.
  2. Have students write a rough draft of their research including facts on selected landmarks.
  3. Have students peer edit their information looking for punctuation, grammar and content mistakes.
  4. Type in a word processing program or neatly write. Cut to size and prepare for book.
  5. Glue research clips in book and add foam letters and stickers. Add additional decorations and bind with a ribbon. Display or share books discussing research and facts about the landmarks.

Tips

Appropriate for elementary- and middle-school grade levels with varying levels of help. Students may enjoy making other little books with this method. Great for any Language Arts or other student-made miniature books.

Background

This project is a great way for students to improve their research skills and learn the historic significance of the famous monuments and landmarks of Washington, D.C.

Incorporate this activity into a geography lesson. Have students locate Washington, D.C. on a map of the United States. Students learn where Washington, D.C. is in relation to their state. Where else can you see historic landmarks? Collect ideas on the board and then label the location of each famous landmark on the map.

Tip: Appropriate for elementary- and middle-school grade levels with varying levels of help. Use this bookmaking method to explore a variety of educational topics.
