Step 1 Glue the three cake tiers, centered on top of one another as shown. Floral pin the lighted floral garland around the top of each cake tier. There will be a length of lights left at the end after you’ve gone around the top of each tier. Let this length hang. It will be used later around the ball topper and birds.
Step 2 Cut three lengths of tulle long enough to wrap around the 12" cake form. Gather the end of one piece of tulle together so that it’s about 1½" wide. Pin the end in place at the bottom edge of the cake form. Keep the tulle gathered together and wrap it completely around the cake. Pin the end again where you stop. Be sure to wrap the tulle over the light cord to conceal it. This first piece of tulle should cover the bottom third of the cake. Repeat this with the other two lengths of tulle to cover the top two thirds of the 12" cake. Cover the 10" and the 8" cake tiers with gathered lengths of tulle in the same way. Conceal the light cords with the tulle.
Step 3 Pin a length of ribbon around the bottom of each cake tier as shown.
Step 4 Cut the 4" ball in half with the serrated knife. Set aside one half for a future project. Glue the half ball to the top of the cake. Gather the end of the tulle and pin in place at the bottom cut edge of the ball. Begin wrapping the ball with the gathered tulle using the corsage pins to hold it in place as you go. Cut the tulle to the length you need and pin the end to the top of the ball. Glue one bird in at the top of the ball and glue one bird sitting at the base of the ball as shown. Pin the remaining length of lights around the ball topper and birds.
Step 5 Push pink pins in a pattern around each cake tier to look like frosting dots. Be careful not to pin through the lights.
Step 6 Fill in between the lighted floral garland around the top of each cake tier with the decorative petals and the pink silk flowers.
