Roll Paperclay® into about a 1-inch thick snake for nose. Use knife to cut to desired length. Place snake onto gourd, smooth from top down to shape nose. Roll two small balls for nostrils, place on each side of nose and smooth and blend into nose. Use end of paintbrush handle to poke a small hole into each nostril. Add small balls for warts if desired; be sure to smooth them into nose.

Roll two balls of Paperclay® for ears and place on each side of head. Smooth Paperclay® onto gourd, then flatten into shape of ear, making each ball about ½-inch thick. Note: The top of the ears and the top of the nose should line up pretty closely. Let Paperclay® dry overnight.

Pour Bayberry, Old Ivy and Ivory onto palette. Pick-up a some of each color with sponge brush and paint entire witch's head. Don't over blend colors; leave some color variation for added interest. Let dry.

Trace patterns onto gourd or free-hand draw. Paint both eyes with Ivory; let dry. Paint eyes according to diagram; let dry. Mix Black with water until consistency of ink and outline eyes, add eyelashes and eyebrows.

Glue doll hair on top of head and hat on top of hair. Glue head centered on black spider web.

-
For hanger, cut hemp into four 30-inch long pieces. Thread hemp pieces through opposing corners of black spider web by folding each piece in half, wrapping around edge of web and bringing both ends up through loop. Pull all ends together and knot, centered above web; trim excess hemp.
-
Spread cotton spider web around black web and witch's head.
-
Cut four varying lengths of hemp and attach one end to items to be hung from mobile. Tie other end to mobile; add glue to secure if needed.

| Tip: Use patterns provided or draw eyes and mouth free-hand. If using patterns, enlarge on copier as needed to fit gourd, place transfer paper between gourd and pattern, use pencil to trace over lines. Place plastic over work surface. Moisten area beneath plastic (if waterproof) to anchor plastic to table. For ease in handling, keep fingers moist while working with Paperclay®. Use paintbrush appropriate for size of area being painted. Use liner brush for narrow areas and detail work. Let paint dry between coats and before adding any details or highlights. Wash brushes with water and dry with paper towels before changing paint colors. |
