Scarecrow Gourd

Here’s a fun and natural way to create a great Halloween decoration. With a little paint and a few embellishments, you can transform a simple gourd into an adorable scarecrow.

Due to the seasonal nature of some merchandise, actual availability of some products pictured may vary.

 
  1. Paint gourd as follows: Top with flesh tone (for face), center with alternating red and black checks (for shirt), band below shirt with black (for belt), buckle with white, bottom with blue (for pants). Let dry.

 
  1. Cut two ovals from black craft foam for buttons and one triangle from red craft foam for nose. Glue wiggle eyes, nose and buttons in place as shown.

 
  1. Use liner to paint gourd as follows: Squiggly mouth, eyebrows and details on pants with black; cheeks with red; freckles and details on buttons with white.

 
  1. Cut natural raffia and glue around top of gourd for hair. Tie orange raffia into a shoestring bow and glue at “neck” of gourd. Glue straw hat to top of gourd over hair. Glue picks and black bird to top of hat as shown.

Tip: Use photo as a guide and follow manufacturer’s instructions for all products used.

Let paint dry between coats and before adding details. Using a different sponge brush for each paint color is recommended. Wash liner brush before changing paint colors.

If desired for straighter lines, use masking tape when painting checks on shirt and belt.
