  • Caron’s International Simply Soft (100% acrylic;7oz/199g, 330 yds/302 m skein): Autumn Red (MC), Violet, Black, Grey Heather, DK Sage or Color Of Your Choice, Bone- 1 Skein of Each
  • One Pair Each Size US 8 (5mm) Knitting Needles or Size To Obtain Gauge
  • One Pair Size US 7 (4.5mm) Knitting Needles For Ribbing
  • Yarn Needle
  • Stitch Holders
  • Bobbins

     KNITTED MEASUREMENTS Bust 32 (34, 36)” Length 20 (21, 22 1/2)”

 
     GAUGE In Fair Isle, 18 sts and 22 rows = 4”/10 cm in Fair Isle

 
     STITCHES USED Stockinette stitch with Fair Isle (see chart) 2x2 rib

 
     2x2 rib Row 1: *K2, p2; repeat from * across.

 
     Row 2: Knit the knit sts and purl the purl sts as they face you.

 
     HAND KNIT INSTRUCTIONS

 
     BACK

 
     Using size 7 needles and MC, cast on 64 (64, 68) sts. Work in 2x2 rib until piece measures 6 (7, 8)" from beginning.

 
     Change to size 8 needles. Work Fair Isle pattern following chart, with design centered at arrow, for 2 rows. Note: Continue following chart for remainder of sweater.

 
     Shape Waist

 
     Increase 1 st each side of next row and then every other row 5 (7, 6) times -- 76 (80, 82) sts. Continue until piece measures 11 (12, 13)" from beginning.

 
     Shape Armholes

 
     Bind off 8 (9, 9) sts beginning of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each side every other row 4 (5, 5) times – 52 (52, 54) sts. Work even until armhole measures 9 (9, 9 1/2)", end with a WS row.

 
     Shape Shoulders

 
     Bind off 9 (8, 8) sts beginning of next 2 rows. Put remaining 34 (36, 38) sts on holder.

 
     FRONT

 
     Work as for back until armhole measures 2 1/2 (2 1/2, 3)", end with a WS row.

 
     Shape Neck

 
     Work 18 (18, 19) sts and place center 16 sts on a holder; join a second ball of yarn and work to end. Working both sides at the same time, at each neck edge dec 1 st every row 4 (5, 5) times, then every other 5 (5, 6) times -- 9 (8, 8) sts each side.

 
     Shape Shoulders

 
     Continue until armhole measures same as back and matches chart work. Bind off remaining 9 (8, 8) sts each side.

 
     FINISHING

 
     Block pieces to measurements.

 
     Neckband: Sew right shoulder seam. With RS facing, using size 7 needles and Violet, pick up and knit 34 (36, 38) sts from back neck holder, 33 (34, 35) sts from left front neck edge, 16 sts from front neck holder and 33 (34, 35) sts from right front neck edge - 116 (120, 124) sts. Work 2x2 rib for 6 rows. Bind off in rib.

 
     Sew rem shoulder seam and neckband.

 
     Sleeve bands: With RS facing, using size 7 ndls and Violet, pick up and knit 84 (84, 88) sts along armhole edge. Work 2x2 rib for 6 rows. Bind off in rib.

 
     Sew side seams including sleeve bands.

 
     Weave in ends.

Tip: Try using different colors for the background.
