  • Autumn Red (C), 1 Ball
  • One Pair Size US 8 (5mm) Knitting Needles, or Size to Obtain Gauge

     Row 1:* K1, p1; repeat from * across.

 
     Row 2: * P1, k1; repeat from * across.

 
     Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for Moss st.

 
     Stockinette Stitch (St st)

 
     Cable Pattern (multiple of 18 sts plus 8)

 
     Row 1: *P1, C6 (slip next 3 sts onto a cn and hold in back, k3 from left hand needle, k3 sts from cn), p1, k10; repeat from * to last 8 sts, p1,C6, p1.

 
     Row 2: Knit the knit sts and purl the purl sts.

 
     Rows 3-10: Repeat row 2.

 
     Repeat Rows 1-10 for cable pattern.

     Work in Moss st for 6 rows. Join colors B and C.

 
     Following graph, work Rows 1-17, keeping first 5 and last 5 sts in Moss st using color A.

 
     Cut B and C.

 
     Continuing with color A hereafter, work 4 rows in Moss st, inc 0 (2, 4) sts on first row – 234 (252, 270) sts.

 
     Next row (WS): Work 5 Moss sts, *k1, p6, k1, p10; repeat from * to last 13 sts, k1, p6, k1, 5 Moss sts.

 
     Continue to keep the first 5 and last 5 sts in Moss st and the 224 (242, 260) sts between in cable pattern until piece measures 12 1/2 (13 1/2, 14 1/2)” from beginning, ending with a WS row.

 
     Dec row 1 (RS): Work 5 Moss sts, *p1, k6, p1, k2tog, k3tog(twice), k2tog,; repeat from * to last 13 sts, p 1, k6, p1, 5 moss sts -- 162 (174, 186 sts).

     Continue in Moss st until there are 6 (8, 10) rows for neckband. Bind off.

 
     FINISHING

 
     Sew in ends. Sew on button.

 
     Using yarn needle, weave in ends.
