  • FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
    Bear measures approximately 15-inches/38cm tall

  • GAUGE
Gauge is not critical for this project.

  • SPECIAL TECHNIQUE
Triple ring method: Wrap end of yarn around index finger three times to create rings; leave a 4-inch/10cm yarn tail. Remove rings from finger and insert crochet hook through center of rings. Yarn over and draw up a loop, chain 1. Work the first round of stitches in the rings. At the end of the first round, pull gently on the yarn tail to tighten the ring.

  • ABBREVIATION
sc2tog: Single crochet 2 together – Insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, (two loops on hook), insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through all three loops on hook.

  • STITCHES USED
    Chain (ch)
    Double crochet (dc)
    Half double crochet (hdc)
    Reverse single crochet (Rev sc)
    Single crochet (sc)
    Slip stitch (slip stitch)
    Treble crochet (tr)

  • NOTE
Bear is worked in continuous spiral; do not join rounds (unless otherwise instructed). Use a stitch marker to indicate the end of the first round. Move the marker as each new round is completed.

  • HELPFUL HINT
Gauge is not important for this project. However, work stitches tightly to create a firm fabric through which the stuffing will not show.
When increasing or decreasing evenly around, work the decreases and increases in different locations each round to keep the shaping smooth.

  • HEAD & BODY
Using MC, form a ring using the triple ring method (see above).

  • Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in the ring; do not join and do not turn—6 sc.

  • Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around—12 sc.

  • Rnds 3 – 5: Sc around, increasing 6 sc (work 2 sc in one st) evenly spaced on each round—30 sc.

  • Rnd 6: Work even, (sc in each sc around).

  • Rnds 7 – 8: Sc around, increasing 6 sc evenly spaced on each round—42 sc.

  • Rnds 16 – 21: Sc around, decreasing (by sc2tog) 5 sc evenly spaced on Rnd 16 and every other round—30 sc remain.

  • Begin stuffing head and body lightly and continue to add stuffing as work progresses.

  • Rnd 22: (Sc2tog, sc in next 3 sc) 6 times—24 sc remain.

  • Rnds 23 – 25 and 31: Work even.

  • Rnds 26 – 30: Sc around, increasing 3 sc evenly spaced on each round—39 sc.
