  • Caron International's ‘Simply Soft Heather’ (100% acrylic, 5oz/150g, 250yds/229m): #9505 Plum Heather, 5oz/150g
  • Needles: 1 pair size US 7 (4.5mm), or size to obtain gauge for Medium size
  • Needles: 1 pair size US 9 (5.5mm), or size to obtain gauge for Large size

     KNITTED MEASUREMENTS
Length: 15½ (16½)-inches/39.5 (42) cm.
Width around calf: 11½ (13½)-inches/29 (31.5) cm.

 
     GAUGE
In 1x1 rib using size 7 needles, 24 sts and 24 rows = 4-inches/10cm.
In pattern st, using size 7 needles, 22 sts and 24 rows = 4-inches/10cm.

 
     In 1x1 rib using size 9 needles, 22 sts and 22 rows = 4-inches/10cm.

 
     In pattern st, using size 9 needles, 20 sts and 22 rows = 4-inches/10cm.

 
     HELPFUL HINTS
Place markers between 6 cable sts and 8 Blackberry sts.

 
     NOTE
Medium size sock is worked on size 7 needles and Large size sock is worked on size 9 needles.

 
     ABBREVIATIONS
C4F (cable 4 front 4): P1, slip next 2 sts onto cable needle, knit next 2 sts, then knit 2 sts from cable needle.

 
     STITCHES USED
1x1 rib (multiple of 2 sts + 1)

 
     Row 1 (RS): *K1, p1; repeat from * across, end k1.

 
     Row 2: Knit the knit sts and purl the purl sts as they face you.

 
     Repeat Row 2 for 1x1 rib.

 
     Blackberry st panel (worked on 8 sts).

 
     Row 1 (WS): * (K1, p1, k1) in next st, p3tog; repeat from * once.

 
     Row 2: Purl 8.

 
     Row 3: * P3tog, (k1, pl, k1) in next st; repeat from * once.

 
     Row 4: Purl 8.

 
     Repeat Rows 1-4 for Blackberry St panel.

 
     MOCK SOCK (make 2)
Starting at ankle, with size 7 (9) needles, CO 55 (57) sts.

 
     Mark on wrong side with a small piece of different color yarn, so you will know that it is the top.

 
     Row 1 (WS): P1, * k1, p1; repeat from * across, ending with p1.

 
     Row 2: K1, *p1, k1; repeat from * across, ending with k1.

 
     Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for rib for 1½-inches (3.5cm), ending with Row 1.

 
     Knit next row, inc 3 (1) sts evenly spaced -- 58 (58) sts.

 
     Establish cable and Blackberry St as follows:

 
     Row 1 (WS): P1, * ([k1, p1, k1] in the next st, p3 tog) twice, place marker (pm), k1, p4, k1, (pm); repeat from * across, ending with p1.

 
     Row 2: K1, * p1, k4, p1, sl marker, p8, sl marker: repeat from * across, ending with k1.

 
     Row 3: P1, * (p3tog, [k1, pl , k1] in next st) twice, sl marker, k1, p4, k1, sl marker; repeat from * across, ending with p1.

 
     Row 4: K1, * p1, CF4, p1, sl marker, p8, sl marker; repeat from * across, ending with k1.

 
     Repeat these 4 rows for pattern until piece measures 14 (15)-inches from beginning inc 1 st on last row; end with a RS row – 59 (59) sts.

 
     Work 1x1 rib same as for ankle rib for 1½-inches, ending with WS row.

 
     BO loosely.

 
     FINISHING
Sew side seams. Using yarn needle, weave in ends.
