     Note
Ch 3 at beg of row or rnd counts as dc throughout. Join with sl st throughout.

 
     Motif A (make 13). With MC, ch 31.

 
     1st row: (RS). 1 dc in 4th ch from hook (counts as 2 dc). 1 dc in each ch across. 29 dc. Turn.

 
     2nd row: Ch 3. 1 dc in each dc across. Turn.

 
     3rd row: Ch 3. *1 dc in next 3 dc. Ch 4. (Miss next dc. Tr in next dc)

 
     4 times. Ch 4. Miss next dc. Rep from * once more. 1 dc in last 4 dc. Turn.

 
     4th and 5th rows: Ch 3. *1 dc in next 3 dc. Ch 4. 1 sc in next

 
     4 sts. Ch 4. Rep from * once more. 1 dc in last 4 dc. Turn.

 
     6th row: Ch 3. *1 dc in next 3 dc. (Ch 1. Tr in next sc) 4 times. Ch 1. Rep from * once more. 1 dc in last 4 dc. Turn.

 
     7th row: Ch 3. *1 dc in next 3 dc. (1 dc in next ch-1 sp. 1 dc in next tr) 4 times. 1 dc in next ch-1 sp. Rep from * once more. 1 dc in last 4 dc. Turn.

 
     8th to 13th rows: As 2nd to 7th rows once more.

     Motif B: (make 12).

 
     With A, ch 4. Join with sl st to first ch to form a ring.

 
     1st rnd: Ch 5 (counts as dc and ch 2). (3 dc in ring. Ch 2) 3 times. 2 dc in ring. Join to 3rd ch of ch 5.

 
     2nd rnd: Sl st in first ch-2 sp. Ch 3. (1 dc. Ch 4. 2 dc) in same sp. [1 dc in next 3 dc. (2 dc. Ch 4. 2 dc) in next corner ch-2 sp] 3 times. 1 dc in last 3 dc. Join MC to top of ch 3.

 
     3rd and 4th rnds: With MC, sl st to first ch-4 sp. Ch 3. (1 dc. Ch 4. 2 dc) in same sp. [1 dc in each dc to next corner ch-4 sp. (2 dc. Ch 4. 2 dc) in next corner ch-4 sp] 3 times. 1 dc in each dc around. Join to top of ch 3.

 
     5th and 6th rnds: With A, as 3rd rnd.

 
     7th rnd: With MC, ch 2 (counts as hdc). Work 21 hdc across each side, having 5 hdc in each corner ch-4 sp. Join to top of ch 2. Fasten off.

 
     Finishing
Join Motifs tog into 5 strips each 5 motifs long, alternating Motif A with Motif B.

 
     Edging
1st rnd: (RS). Join MC to any corner. Work 1 rnd of sc evenly around, having 3 sc in corners. Join A with sl st to first sc.

 
     2nd rnd: With A, ch 3. 1 dc in each sc around, working 5 dc in each corner sc. Join to top of ch 3. 3rd rnd: Ch 1. (1 sc. Ch 3. 1 dc) in last sl st. *Miss next 2 dc. (1 sc. Ch 3. 1 dc) in next dc. Rep from * around, ending with miss last 2 dc. Join to first sc. Fasten off.

Tip:

Keep consistent tension to ensure your squares are all the same size, this will make finishing easier.
