INSTRUCTIONS:

The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ). Numbers for each size are shown in the same color throughout the pattern. When only one number is given in black, it applies to all sizes.

With MC, ch 16 (22).

1st row: (RS). 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each of next 4 (7) ch. 2 sc in each of next 2 ch. 1 sc in next ch. 2 sc in each of next 2 ch. 1 sc in each of next 4 (7) ch. 2 sc in last ch. 21 (27) sc. Turn.

2nd row: Ch 1. 2 sc in first sc. 1 sc in each of next 7 (10) sc. 2 sc in each of next 2 sc. 1 sc in next sc. 2 sc in each of next 2 sc. 1 sc in each of next 7 (10) sc. 2 sc in last sc. 27 (33) sts.

3rd row: Ch 1. 2 sc in first sc. 1 sc in each of next 10 (13) sc. 2 sc in each of next 2 sc. 1 sc in next sc. 2 sc in each of next 2 sc. 1 sc in each of next 10 (13) sc. 2 sc in last sc. 33 (39) sts.

4th row: Ch 1. 2 sc in first sc. 1 sc in each of next 13 (16) sc. 2 sc in each of next 2 sc. 1 sc in next sc. 2 sc in each of next 2 sc. 1 sc in each of next 13 (16) sc. 2 sc in last sc. 39 (45) sts. Break MC. Join A. Turn.

5th row: With A, ch 1. Working in back loops only, 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.

Rep last row 5 (7) times more. Break A.

Shape instep: 1st row: (RS). With MC, ch 1. Working in back loops only, 1 sc in each of next 13 (16) sc. [(Yoh and draw up a loop in next st. Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) 3 times. Yoh and draw through all 4 loops on hook – dc3tog made] twice. 1 dc in next sc. (Dc3tog over next 3 sts) twice. 1 sc in each sc to end of row.

2nd row: (RS). Ch 1. Working in both loops, 1 sc in each of next 13 (16) sc. [Yoh and draw up a loop in next st. Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) 5 times. Yoh and draw through all 6 loops on hook – dc5tog made] 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Fasten off.

Strap: (make 2).

Girl’s Version only: Ch 30 (33).

Boy’s Version only: Ch 15 (18).

Both Versions: 1st row: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of row. Turn.

2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to last 3 sc. Ch 2. Miss next 2 sc. 1 sc in last sc. Turn..

3rd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first sc. 2 sc in next ch-2 sp. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Fasten off.

FINISHING

Sew back and sole seam. Sew Strap to bootie as shown in picture noting Boy’s or Girl’s version. Sew buttons to correspond to buttonholes.

Note: Boys version has 1 buttonhole at one end. The opposite button is decorative only.
