Design A Dream Catcher

Dream catchers are thought to act as a charm to protect sleeping children from nightmares. The legend is that the bad dreams will get caught in the web and therefore stay away from people.

  • Floral Ring, 6-inch
  • Black Suede Lace, 16 inches
  • Feathers, your choice of colors, 4
  • White Polyester Cord, 2 yards
  • Multicolored Yarn, 18 yards
  • Pony Beads, your choice of colors, 16

Cost of each project will vary depending on materials used.

Due to the seasonal nature of some merchandise, actual availability of some products pictured may vary.

  • Use approximately 18 yards of multi-colored yarn. Knot one end around the floral ring. Loosely wrap the yarn around and around the ring until the entire ring is covered. Knot the end of the yarn once the wrapping is finished.

  • To make the web inside the floral ring, use approximately 2 yards of the polyester cord as follows:
Tie one end of the cord around the ring with a knot.
Tie 7 half hitch knots around the ring spacing them about ¾ -inch apart. Keep the cord fairly snug when going from 1 knot to the next.
To begin the next row of the web, start tying half hitches in the middle of the cord already attached (instead of around the ring itself).
Continue tying half hitches in the same manner until the opening in the center is the desired size.
To end the web, tie a double knot in the cord and trim the excess cord.

  • Cut four 8-inch pieces of multi-colored yarn and tie 1 end of each string to the bottom of the ring, evenly spaced apart around the bottom half. Thread 4 coordinating pony beads to each string. Tie the dangling end of the string around a feather in a knot.

  • Cut a 16-inch piece of suede lace. Fold it in half and tie the ends together in a knot.

  • Loop it over the floral ring and thread it back through the folded end of the lace to make a hanger.

Tip: To make a half hitch knot take the cord up from the front side through the inside of the top of the ring, loop over the top of the ring, come back and loop under the string that is hanging down and repeat for the next loop.

For younger crafters, you can criss-cross the cord across the top of the floral ring opening.
