For extra whimsy, use holiday themed cupcake paper. It's a festive and easy way to add decoration to your cupcakes. And don't forget the frosting!
If the fondant design on your cookie starts to crack, use solid vegetable shortening to smooth the cracked area together using a circular motion. Don't use water; it will break down the fondant.
When your cupcakes are done, remove them from the pan immediately so they don't continue to cook, then place individual cupcakes on a wire rack to cool. Apply frosting to cool cupcakes to prevent the frosting from getting warm and thin.
Don't open the oven door to check on your dessert—you'll be tampering with the heat and it will affect the cooking and consistency of your cake.
The classic "toothpick test" is still the best way to determine if a cake is done. Just give it a poke in the center, and if the toothpick comes out clean, your cake is done.
Use a crumb coat to seal moisture into the cake and give the fondant a sticky surface to adhere to. Crumb coating also hides any imperfections that might show through the rolled fondant. Top it all off with a beautiful leaf icing embellishment.
