Project Instructions

Do not use unbaked clay on unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Good work surfaces include wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on ovenproof glass or metal surface at 275 °F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per 1/4" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult.

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F. Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the clay dedicated pasta machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.

Making the Bulls Eye Cane

Make ½" diameter x1"L Bright Green log.

With the pasta machine on #1 setting, roll out a White sheet.

Wrap the White sheet around the Bright Green log, taking care not to trap air between the layers. Trim sheet ends to butt together and smooth out with fingers.

With pasta machine on #3 setting, roll out a sheet of both White and Light Blue. Wrap the sheets around the cane layering, Light Blue, White, and finishing with Light Blue.

Reduce the cane by rolling it on the work surface and stretching it until the diameter is reduced to about ¼".

With the pasta machine on #3 setting, roll out a sheet of both White and Bright Green. Lay one sheet on top of the other, and roll through the pasta machine on #1 setting.

Using the Super Slicer, cut very thin slices of the patterned cane.

Arrange the cane slices in rows on the white layer of the clay sheet. Roll the slices into the surface with Acrylic Roller until the surface is smooth.

Using the oval cutter, cut two ovals from the cane covered sheet. Using the circle cutter from the Mini Metal Cutter set, cut two circles inside the upper half of the ovals. Using the needle tool from the Clay Tool Starter Set, pierce holes near the top edge in the center.

Bake at 275 ºF (130 °C) for 15 minutes. Allow to cool completely. Insert jump rings through the holes and attach ear wires.

Baby wipes are a great way to clean your hands after working with clay!
