Step 1 Wash T-shirt without fabric softener and do not dry.

Step 2 Cover work surface with plastic table cover.

Step 3 Fold shirt in half length-wise and lay out on covered work surface.

Step 4 Use chalk pencil to draw a curved line from shoulder to center fold line of shirt. Draw another curve below the first, dividing your shirt into three sections.

Step 5 Begin pleating your shirt at the first chalk line, easing the fabric into a straight line along your chalk line as you pleat. Tie tightly with a zip tie.

Step 6 Repeat pleating along second chalk line and zip tie. Your shirt should now be tied into three sections.

Step 7 Mix yellow, red, and violet dyes according to package instructions.

Step 8 Lay zip-tied shirt on covered work surface.

Step 9 Apply yellow dye to first section of shirt, keeping dye ½" from zip tie.

Step 10 Apply red dye to center section of shirt and violet dye to third section, keeping dyes ½" away from zip ties.

Step 11 Let set six to eight hours.

Step 12 Rinse shirt in cold water until water runs clear.

Step 13 Without removing zip ties, wash tank top in washing machine.

Step 14 Remove zip ties and dry in dryer.
