Project Instructions

Place 12"x12" Self Healing Cutting Mat on table with frame on mat, front side up. Hold X-ACTO® Heavy Duty Utility Knife with X-ACTO® Z Series Blade in one hand against top edge of frame, with elbow braced on table to prevent slipping. Keep other hand safely behind, holding frame from behind where blade is cutting. With knife blade almost parallel to cutting surface, push knife away from you to scrape away top veneer layer from edge. (Tip: Make random length, irregular cuts for interest.) Trim edge on all four sides. Work carefully, always keeping non-knife hand away from blade. If wood splinters, make a short cut away from you; turn frame around to make another short cut away from you, that meets the first. Always brace fingers, palms and elbows to prevent slipping and brace frame on mat. Use X-ACTO® Z Series #1 Knife to clean up any small areas of chips or splinters.

Refer to photo to lightly draw vertical lines on front (top) surface. Keeping X-ACTO® Z Series #1 Knife almost parallel to surface, slice away at veneer along those lines to reveal darker wood below.

If desired, attach sawtooth hanger. In a well-ventilated, newspaper-covered area, give frame several coats of mat sealer to deepen the natural color and protect surface. Let dry.

Apply rub-on to top of frame according to manufacturer's instructions. Use a Metal Ruler and #1 Knife on 12"x12" Self Healing Cutting Mat to cut two 2½" square chipboards with 1½" square centered opening. Use chalking ink to color. Refer to photo and position at bottom right along with buttons. Thread ribbon through key and knot. Diagonally trim ends using Precision Tip Scissors. Glue pieces to frame using CraftBond™ Quick Dry Glue Dual Tip Glue Pen. Let dry. Insert photo and enjoy!
