Project Instructions

All seam allowances are 3/8".

Cut one 42"Wx36"L for cape outer shell from black costume silk.*

Cut one 42"Wx36"L for cape lining from red costume silk.*

Cut 43" from 1" red satin ribbon.

Cut ribbon to desired length.

With right sides together, stitch around all four sides of rectangle, leaving an 8' opening for turning. Turn and press seams open with cool iron (you may need to use pressing cloth), making sure to turn raw edges in along seam line.

Top stitch around perimeter, catching 8" opening in the seam.

Along the 42" edge of cape, measure 2" down and pin the ribbon in place (pin ribbon lower if a higher collar is desired). Tuck raw edge of ribbon under on both ends. Stitch close to the ribbon edges, thus creating a casing for the neck tie.

Using a safety pin, string the ribbon through the ribbon casing and tie a knot at both ends. **

Note: While every attempt has been made to give accurate measurements, yardage requirements and construction directions, this does not allow for personal variations in measuring, cutting and/or sewing.

*CAUTION: Make sure to adjust the length of the cape so that your child or others won't step on it and risk falling.
**CAUTION: Use caution when attaching string or ribbon to children's clothing, they can be a strangulation hazard.
