Material List

  • Craft Smart® Oven-Bake Clay – White, Red, Blue
  • Clay Dedicated Pasta Machine
  • Toothpicks (6)
  • Fast Setting Clear Glue
  • Premo! Sculpey® Glitter – Red and Silver

Project Instructions

Step 1 Using the clay dedicated pasta machine on the #1 setting – condition all three colors of clay.

Step 2 Make a 2"Lx1/16" diameter snake from all three colors. Make a 1"Lx1/16" diameter snake from all three colors. Make sure that one end is flattened on each snake since you will be gluing the squiggles together once they are baked. Flattening the one end makes gluing together easier.

Step 3 Wrap each snake around a toothpick to make them have the squiggle shape. Leave them on the toothpick as you will bake them this way.

Step 4 Roll the squiggles in glitter.

Step 5 Bake clay on the toothpicks at 275° F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) of thickness. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT exceed the above temperatures or recommended baking time. Baking should be completed by an adult.

Step 6 Allow clay to cool and then remove the squiggles from the toothpicks. Take the flattened ends of the squiggles and glue together using clear, fast-drying glue. Then take the toothpick out and add clear, fast drying glue to the end and stick it up into the middle of the squiggle pieces. Let the glue dry completely before using.

Tips

Baby wipes are the best way to clean up after playing with clay!

Craft Notes

GETTING STARTED
Do not use unbaked clay on unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Good work surfaces include wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275°F (130°C) for 15 minutes per ¼" (6mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult.

Begin by preheating oven to 275°F (130°C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the clay dedicated pasta machine several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
