This is not air-dry clay This is not air dry clay nor should it be marketed as such. Yes, technically, it does dry when exposed to the air, but it dries to what is known as 'greenware' which is ready to be fired in a kiln. This means that a fingernail on the surface will scratch it, that it will be EXTREMELY fragile and will become more so over time as it completely dries out. I, like one of the other reviewers, fired some in my kiln and it turned out fine and is now white as well, just like the ceramic kiln fire clay I purchased at my local ceramic supply store. The price for this isn't great for kiln fire clay though, comparatively speaking, but with a coupon I guess it would be more economical. Its a nice product, it's just shouldn't be used as described here. January 16, 2015
perfect for large pieces I bought this clay to sculpt heads after usually buying clay from hobby lobby. It's perfect for non-finicky pieces that don't require fragile features that would easily break. The shrinkage is minimal after drying and I can usually paint my pieces after 3-4 days of uncovered drying. Highly recommend July 21, 2014
Would not recommend I bought this clay because the Michael's branded products are usually good quality. This clay is not. The clay breaks very easily, just upon touching after completely dry. The clay is super fragile. The white clay also dries a grey color, not white. The clay also is hard to glue back together. I have tried hot glue and E600 glue but both fail. Horrible product, would never buy again. June 18, 2014
Okay for Cone 02 low fire Michaels doesn't mention firing. I have test fired it at Cone 02. It came out fine. I used the red, or terra cotta. It came out a nice medium pink. With a coupon, it is economical and much easier to carry than a 25 lb bag from a ceramic supply store. If low fire is what you do and you use smaller quantities at one time, this is fine.
