Step 1 Cut 17-1/2" of gold chain. On one end, open the last link with two pairs of pliers, slide on half of the toggle clasp and close the link again. Repeat on the other end, adding the other half of the clasp.
Step 2 Using either a separate piece of chain, or 20-gauge 6mm jump rings, you will attach the medallions to the chain. It is easier to use jump rings, but if you don’t have any the right size, just use chain links. Open 10 links or rings. Position one large medallion at the center with the holes pointing up and down. Slide an open ring through one of the holes, attach the ring next to the center link of the chain, and close the ring. Add a second ring through the other hole in the medallion. Attach the second ring to the link on the other side of the center of the chain. This positions one large medallion in the center of the chain.
Step 3 Open one link of a 3-link section of chain, attach it to the bottom hole of the first medallion and close the link. Add a second link through the other bottom hole. Open the bottom link of one of the 3-link sections, attach through one hole of a small medallion and close the link. Repeat with the other 3-link section of chain through the other hole in the medallion.
Step 4 Slide an open link or jump ring through the chain two links from one side of the large medallion at the center. Attach the ring or link through the hole of a small medallion, and close the ring. Attach the other side of the small medallion to the chain four links further toward the back. Repeat on the opposite side, so there are three medallions attached to the chain.
Step 5 Slide an open link or jump ring through the chain two links from the last added element, and through one hole in another large medallion. Turn this medallion so the holes run horizontally, from side to side. Close the link or ring. Attach a second ring or link to the other side of the medallion four links further back on the chain. Repeat on the opposite side, so there are five medallions attached to the chain.
Step 6 Cut a 17" piece of .019 flexible beading wire. Slide the wire through the bottom hole of the last medallion added to the chain, and center the wire in the hole so there is about 8 inches on each side. All of the beads will be strung on doubled beading wire. Slide a 5mm gold accent bead onto the wires.
Step 7 String one 9x12 jet oval, one 8mm gold filigree, one gold flower tube and one 9x12 jet oval onto the wire. Repeat three more times. String one more jet 9x12, a 5mm gold round, 4mm gold round, 3mm gold round and one crimp tube. Pass through the half of the clasp on the side you’re stringing, and back through the crimp tube. Use crimping pliers to flatten and fold the crimp tube.
Step 8 Repeat Steps 6 and 7 on the opposite side.
Sometimes when working with chain, it is easier to add the clasp at the beginning, so the clasp can be used to pick up and hold the piece more easily than grasping the end links of the chain.
