Instructions Print

Step 1
Cut five 1"x5" strips of red felt and five 1"x5" strips of white felt.
Step 2
Place the red strips horizontally in front of you. Begin weaving the white strips vertically through the red strips, first over, then under. Repeat for the second strip weaving under, then over. Alternate in this fashion to create the checkerboard pattern.
Step 3
Add a bit of glue to under the ends of each strip to secure in place.
Step 4
To make the "picnic basket," cut a piece of gray felt 4"x6". Fold in half so it is now 4"x3". Cut a piece of yarn about 10" long and place each end in between the front and back of the "basket". Glue the sides of the basket.
Step 5
Using the patterns, make items to put into your picnic basket by cutting and gluing the felt shapes together. Make an extra watermelon and glue it to the front of the picnic basket.
