Start with clean hands and work surface area. Good work surfaces include wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275°F for 30 minutes per ¼" thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use.
Begin by preheating oven to 275°F. Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the clay dedicated pasta machine several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
Condition all the clay. Roll the turquoise clay into a ball about 7/8" in diameter. Roll all the other clay colors through the pasta machine on a #4 thickness on the pasta machine or a medium setting.
Put the turquoise clay ball in the middle of the purse holder well and gentle press around the ball to make a dome that slopes down to the metal edge. With the Kemper cutters cut out about six red flowers (larger shape), 11 pink flowers (smallest shape), 6 olive leaves (smallest shape) and about 12 tiny balls of Sunshine clay.
Arrange the red flower on the turquoise clay then put the pink flowers on top of the red and add a leaf by each flower. Put little balls of Sunshine clay in between the flowers. With a needle tool or small ball stylus make an impression in the middle of each flower and put a ball of Sunshine in the hole. With the side of the Etch 'n Pearl tool make line impressions in each flower pedal and lines in the leaves. For a background texture use the point of the tool and make dots in the turquoise clay. Put a dot impression in the middle of each Sunshine ball of clay.
Optional: For a little metallic shimmer you can lightly dust the clay with some Pearl Ex powder.
Bake the purse hanger in a preheated 275 degree oven and cure for 25 minutes. When the purse hanger is cool, pop out the clay and put a dab of instant glue in the metal well, then press the decorated clay back in place.
