Step 1 Cut a 15" section of leather cording.
Step 2 Choose several colors of hemp and cut each into 60" lengths. * If the design calls for small sections of color, cut them into 12" to 20" sections and add them as you go.
Step 3 Open a ball chain necklace closure and lay the leather cording end about 1½" from necklace end. Tie the hemp tightly around the leather and ball chain.
Step 4 Attach chain end to a clipboard or tape to your work surface with a piece of Duck Tape®.
Step 5 Slide a metal spacer bead onto the cord.
Step 6 Hold the tail ends of the hemp against the leather towards the direction you are going to wrap, and begin wrapping hemp tightly and continuously around the leather and ball chain.
Step 7 A metal spacer can be added to help break up the colors if desired.
Step 8 To add additional colors in your design, leave a 1" tail of hemp and hold against the leather cording with the previous color strand and begin wrapping hemp tightly.
Step 9 Hold the hemp ends, and the colors you are not going to wrap right away, close to the leather cording. Wrap the hemp tightly and continuously around the cording and other hemp strands. When you want to change colors, just pull the color you want forward and hold the previous color close to the leather. Continue to wrap the hemp tightly.
Step 10 For a multicolor section, wrap 2-3 strands of hemp around the cording at a time.
Step 11 Wrap 20 ga. wire tightly around the end sections of wrapped leather cording.
