Project Instructions

step 1For this project, you'll use 3 balls of Nautical Blue, 2 balls of White and 2 balls of Red Lily® Sugar n' Cream® yarn.

Measurements: Approx 17” [43 cm] wide x 15” [38 cm] high, excluding handles.

Gauge: 14 sc and 15 rows = 4” [10 cm].

Sc = Single crochet
Sc2tog = Draw up a loop in each of next 2 sc. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook.
Sl st = Slip stitch

Tog = Together
Yoh = Yarn over hook
step 3Note: When joining colors, work to last 2 loops on hook of first color. Draw new color through last 2 loops and proceed.

Bag Body is worked sideways.
step 4Stripe Pat

With A, work 3 rows.

With B, work 3 rows.

These 6 rows form Stripe Pat.

step 5Bag

Bag Body: With A, ch 51.

1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Skip next ch. (1 sc. Ch 1. 1 sc) in next ch. *Skip next 2 ch. (1 sc. Ch 1. 1 sc) in next ch. Rep from * to last 2 ch. Skip next ch. 1 sc in last ch. Turn.

2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first sc. *(1 sc. Ch 1. 1 sc) in next ch-1 sp. Rep from * to last sc. 1 sc in last sc. Turn.

First 2 rows of Stripe Pat are complete.

Keeping cont of Stripe Pat, rep 2nd row for pat until work from beg measures approx 34” [86.5 cm], ending on 3 rows of B. With RS tog, sl st last row and rem loops of foundation ch tog. Fasten off.
step 6Note: At end of rnd, join with sl st to first sc.

Bottom: With RS facing, join C with sl st to side edge of Bag Body.

step 71st rnd: Ch 1. Work 120 sc evenly around side edge of Bag Body. Join.

2nd to 4th rnds: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around. Join.

5th rnd: Ch 1. (1 sc in each of next 13 sc. Sc2tog) 8 times. Join. 112 sts rem.

6th rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of next 6 sc. Sc2tog. (1 sc in each of next 12 sc. Sc2tog) 7 times. 1 sc in each of next 6 sc. Join. 104 sts rem.

7th rnd: Ch 1. (1 sc in each of next 11 sc. Sc2tog) 8 times. Join. 96 sts rem.

8th rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of next 5 sc. Sc2tog. (1 sc in each of next 10 sc. Sc2tog) 7 times. 1 sc in each of next 5 sc. Join. 88 sts rem.

step 8Cont dec in same manner until 8 sts rem. Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Thread end through rem sts and draw up tightly. Fasten securely.
step 9Edging: Join A with sl st to top of Bag.

1st rnd: Ch 1. Work 120 sc evenly around side edge of Bag Body. Join.

2nd rnd: Ch 1. Working from left to right instead of right to left as usual, work 1 reverse sc in each sc around. Join. Fasten off.

step 10Straps: (make 2). With A, ch 105.

1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of chain. Turn.

2nd to 5th rows: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn. Fasten off at end of last row.

Fold Handle in half lengthwise and working through both thicknesses to join 5th row to foundation row, work 1 sc in each st to end of row. Fasten off.

Sew Straps to Bag as shown in picture.
