FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Mitten Circumference = 7½ (8½)" and Length = 9 (9½)"

GAUGE: 16 sts x 20 rows = 4" in pattern; save time and check your gauge

SPECIAL STITCHES:

M1p (make 1 purl stitch): with left needle tip, pick up strand between sts from back to front, purl into the front.

PATTERN NOTES: 1 ball of Barcelona is enough to complete Pebble Knit Mittens and matching Pebble Knit Hat.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Cuff

Cast on 28 (32) sts. Place marker and join to work in the rnd, being careful not to twist sts.

Rnd 1: *P1, k1; rep from * around.

Rep Rnd 1 until ribbing measures 3½".

Lower Hand

Rnd 1: *P1, k3; rep from * around.

Rnd 2: *P1, k1; rep from * around.

Rep Rnds 1-2 once more.

Continue to repeat pattern established in Rnds 1-2 while you continue to work remainder of mitten.

Rnd 5: M1p, p1, M1p, pm, work in pattern to end of rnd – 30 (34) sts.

Rnds 6-7: Purl to marker, work in pattern to end of rnd.

Rnd 8: M1p, purl to marker, M1p, slip marker, work in pattern to end of rnd.

Rep Rnds 6-8, 2 more times -36 (40) sts.

Repeat Rnd 6 once more.

Next Rnd: Thread a scrap of yarn on plastic needle, slip first 9 sts from needle onto scrap yarn for thumb, cast on 1 st, work in pattern to end of rnd – 28 (32) sts.

Upper Hand

Continue to work in pattern as established until hand measures 5¼ (6¼)" from point where thumb sts were put on waste yarn, with fabric unstretched.

Shape Top

Rnd 1: *P1, k1, k2tog; rep from * around – 21 (24) sts.

Rnds 2-3: *P1, k2; rep from * around.

Rnd 4: *P1, k2tog; rep from * around – 14 (16) sts.

Rnds 5-6: *P1, k1; rep from * around.

Rnd 7: *K2tog; rep from * around – 7 (8) sts.

Cut yarn and thread through remaining stitches. Pull snug to close top of mitten.

Thumb

Place stitches from scrap yarn back onto needles.

Rnd 1: Pick up and knit 3 sts at the base of the 1 cast-on stitch, purl across stitches from scrap yarn – 12 sts. Place marker and join to work in the rnd, being careful not to twist sts.

Purl every round until thumb measures 2½ (2¾)".

Next Rnd: *P2tog, p1; rep from * around – 8 sts.

Next Rnd: *P2tog; rep from * around – 4 sts.

Cut yarn and thread through remaining stitches. Pull snug to close top of thumb.

Finishing: Weave in ends.
