Project Instructions

Body

With larger needle, cast on 160 (178, 196, 214, 232) sts.

Work in St st (k onRS, p on WS) until piece measures 13 in. (33 cm) from beg, end with a WS row. Note: End with a WS row means that the last row you work should be a WS row,and the next row that you are ready to work will be a RS row.

Divide for Fronts and Back

Next Row (RS): K35 (38, 43, 47, 51) for Right Front, place Right Front sts on holder, bind off next 6 (8, 8, 10, 12) sts for underarm, knit until there are 78 (86, 94, 100,106) sts on right needle for Back, place Back sts on holder, bind off next 6 (8, 8, 10, 12) sts for underarm, k to end for Left Front.

Left Front

Working over 35 (38,43, 47, 51) Left Front sts only, work as follows:

Raglan Armhole Shaping

Next Row (WS): Purl.

Next Row: K2, k2tog, k to end – 34 (37, 42, 46, 50) sts at the end of this row.

Right Sleeve

With larger needle, cast on 58 (62, 68, 72, 76) sts.

Next Row (RS): Bind off 3 (4, 4, 5, 6) sts, k to end – 55 (58, 64, 67, 70) sts at the end of this row.

Finishing

Sew Sleeve seams. Fold cuffs to WS along turning ridge and sew bound-off sts to WS of Sleeves. Sew raglan edges of Sleeves to Body.

Neckband

From RS with smaller needle, pick up and k18 (20, 23, 25, 28) sts evenly spaced across right front neck edge, 12 sts across top of right sleeve, 33 (39, 43, 47, 49) sts across back edge, 12 sts across top of left sleeve, and 18 (20, 23, 25, 28) sts across left front neck edge – 93 (103, 113, 121, 129) sts at the end of this row.

Work in K1, p1 Rib for 2 in. (5 cm), end with a RS row.

Knit 1 WS row for turning ridge.

Work in K1, p1 Rib for 2 in. (5 cm).

Bind off.

Fold neckband to WS along turning ridge and loosely sew bound-off sts to WS of Cardigan.

Buttonband

Note: When picking up sts for buttonband and buttonhole band, work through all thicknesses along hem edge.

From RS with smaller needle, beg at top corner of left front edge, pick up and k107 (108, 111, 114,117) sts evenly spaced along left front edge.

Next Row (WS): K1, purl to last st, k1.

Next Row: Knit.

Rep last 2 rows 3 more times.

Knit 1 WS row for turning ridge.

Work 7 rows in St st.

Bind off. Fold buttonband to WS along turning ridge. Sew bound-off sts to WS.

Buttonhole Band

From RS with smaller needle, beg at lower corner of right front edge, pick up and k107 (108, 111,114, 117) sts evenly spaced along right front edge.

Next Row (WS): K1, purl to last st, k1.

Next Row: Knit.

Next Row (WS): K1, purl to last st, k1.

Buttonhole Row 1: K7(8, 10, 10, 12), *bind off next 4 sts for buttonhole, k until there are 16 (16,16, 17, 17) more sts on right needle; rep from * 4 more times.

Buttonhole Row 2: K1, p to last st, casting on 4 sts over each buttonhole, k1.

Work 3 rows in St st.

Knit 1 WS row for turning ridge.

Work 2 rows in St st, then rep Buttonhole Rows 1 and 2.

Work 3 rows in St st.

Bind off.

Fold buttonhole band to WS along turning ridge. Sew edges of buttonholes together. Sew bound-offedge of band to WS. Sew buttons opposite buttonholes.

Weave in ends.

STITCH EXPLANATION
ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them tog – 1 st decreased.

PATTERN STITCH

Row 1: K1, *p1, k1; rep from * to across.

NOTES
1. A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of sts. Work back and forth on circular needle as if working on straight needles.
2. Cardigan is worked in one piece from the lower edge up to armholes, then divided for Fronts and Back.
Hems are worked along the lower edge of Cardigan body and sleeves by picking up sts across the cast-on edge and working downward.
