Breathe new life into an old favorite portrait with this fun & easy canvas project.
Cover space on the canvas where the photo is to be placed and cover the photo generously with gel medium. Lay photo on canvas. Smooth with paintbrush as you would wallpaper, making sure to get out the bubbles. Apply another coat of gel medium to entire surface of photo.
Paint dress with Medium Magenta and white. Let dry.
Using a pouncer and black gesso, polka dot the dress.
Paint collar Bright Aqua Green. Allow to dry.
Use Punchinello as a stencil and add black gesso as shown. Allow to dry. Then shade with Transparent Viridian Hue.
Paint wings white and shade with Burnt Umber.
Paint earrings Titanium White and Cadmium Yellow Deep. Let dry.
Paint crown Bright Aqua Green. Let dry.
Paint bird Magenta. Let dry.
Instead of a black canvas, you may gesso a natural canvas black. Let dry.
Make copies of your completed work and keep on hand for future collage greeting cards, scrapbook paper, etc.
Make copies of your finished art and alter the copies to become new journal pages.
Your photos can be altered in a silly way or in a serious way.
If you want, replace the dress, collar, etc. with scrapbook paper.
Make two copies and cut around desired items, using the pieces for a pattern.
Use tracing paper and graphite paper to replicate patterns of desired pieces.
