Project Instructions»

Note: Allow to dry between painting steps.

Step 1 Condition Sculpey® white clay and roll it out using clay conditioning machine, rolling pin, or acrylic rod.

Step 2 Place clay on flat work surface and stamp it with decorative rubber stamp. (If you think clay is sticky, sprinkle it first with some cornstarch.)

Step 3 Cut random-sized strips in clay with craft knife. Place on tile or craft-only baking sheet. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 for Premo! Sculpey® Pearl clay. Use alphabet stamp to stamp inspirational words of your choice into clay. Use craft knife to cut clay into strips.

Step 4 Bake clay strips in oven, following manufacturer’s instructions. Let clay pieces cool (10-12 minutes).

Step 5 Once tiles are cooled, use ¾" flat brush to base coat white clay pieces Desert Turquoise, Indian Turquoise, Sour Apple, and Burnt Orange. Set them aside until dry.

Step 6 Use ¾" flat brush to coat entire mosaic tray with Burnt Umber. As tray is drying, wash brush with soap and water. After mosaic tray is dry (15-20 minutes), lightly sand and wipe off with tack cloth.

Step 7 Using ¾" flat brush, base coat outside walls of mosaic tray with Americana® matte decoupage glue. Rinse brush.

Step 8 Use ¾" flat brush to coat each white clay piece with Burnt Umber. Wipe off majority of paint, leaving Burnt Umber in crevices to create worn, distressed look.

Step 9 Repeat Step 8 on Pearl clay tiles with stamped words. Allow all clay tile pieces to dry.

Step 10 Adhere each clay tile to tray with dollop of adhesive.

Step 11 After paint is completely dry, use ¾" flat brush to apply two coats of decoupage glue to seal, allowing to dry between coats.

Step 12 Use ¾" flat brush to paint entire outside of crate Burnt Orange and inside Indian Turquoise.

Step 13 Use sea sponge half dipped in Burnt Orange and half in Burnt Umber and pounce all over Burnt Orange areas.

Step 14 Repeat on inside of crate, just using Indian Turquoise and Burnt Umber.

Step 15 Use hot glue to attach tray to crate.
