Project Instructions»

Use pencil and X-ACTO® 12" Metal Ruler to draw cutting lines on Elmer's® Foam Board™:
White Base: 12" x 18" x 1/2"
Green Sides: two 4" x 18" x 3/16"
Yellow Ends: two 4" x 12 1/2" x 3/16"

Use X-ACTO® #11 Craft Knife (with new blade) and Metal Ruler on Self Healing Cutting Mat to cut Foam Board pieces. (Hint: Score lightly first and then press more firmly to cut deeper, with several passes of the knife. Replace blade often.)

(Note: Outside of box is colored and inside is white.) Before gluing, align Side and End panels, colored-sides-out, around Base. Apply hot glue to one long foam edge of Base and attach one Green Side. Repeat to attach other Green Side. Similarly apply hot glue and attach Yellow Ends.

For box dividers, use same tools to cut one each, Yellow and Green, 3 1/2" x 12" pieces. Place inside box to divide into three sections. Tack with hot glue to glue in place or leave unattached to divide as needed for snacks.

Use pencil to trace Football pattern (download below) onto 1/2" thick White Foam Board. Use same tools to cut out. Set aside.

Trace Football pattern onto one sheet "Franchise Football". (Note: Tip of football won't fit so trace just tip onto second sheet.) Repeat with three more footballs, using the second sheet for all the football tips. Use X-ACTO® 8" Scissors to cut out. On backs, connect tips to footballs by butting and taping seams.

To make football lacing, place one football right side up on Cutting Mat. Align football pattern on top. Use Craft Knife to cut 1/4" slits on indicated lines. Use X-ACTO® 5" Precision Tip Scissors to cut eight 2" lengths ribbon lace and thread each through slits with ends on back. Use transparent tape to hold in place. Cut two 7" lengths of ribbon lace and thread both under short lace lengths, with ribbon laying side-by-side. Thread ends through slits on ends and secure with transparent tape on back. Repeat to make a second laced football.

Apply CraftBond™ Extra Strength Glue Stick to entire surface of Foam Board football. Align laced football on Foam Board and press in place. Turn Foam Board over and cover back with plain football shape. Repeat to cover second Foam Board Football.

Referring to pattern, use pencil to draw white stripes on Football. (Option: Cut stripes off of pattern and use to draw guidelines on Football.) Use Painters® to paint stripes. Repeat to paint strips on back of football. Then, paint front and back of second football. Refer to photo to position and use glue gun to attach backs of Footballs to ends of box, at the same angle.
