Instructions

To change colour, work last stitch of old colour to last yarn over. Yarn over with new colour and draw through all loops on hook to complete the stitch. Proceed with new colour. Carry colour not in use up side of scarf. Take care to cover carried strands with side edging.


SCARF

With A, ch 35.

Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook (beginning ch counts as first hdc) and in each ch across, turn -- 34 sts.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each hdc across; change to B in last sc, turn.

Row 3: With B, ch 2 (counts as first hdc), hdc in each sc across, turn.

Ch 1, sc in each hdc across; change to A in last sc, turn.

Repeat Rows 3 and 4, alternately working 2 rows with A and 2 rows with B, until piece measures about 157 cm (62"); change to B in last st of last row.

RUFFLE

Row 1: With B, *ch 3, skip next st, sc in next st; repeat from * across, turn -- 17 ch-3 spaces.

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), 5 dc in first ch-3 space, 6 dc in each remaining ch-3 space across; change to A in last sc, turn -- 102 sts.

Row 3: With A, ch 3, dc in each dc across, turn.

Row 4: *Ch 3, skip next dc, sc in next dc; repeat from * across. Fasten off.

Working across opposite side of foundation ch, draw up a loop of B in first ch, repeat Rows 1 – 4 to work ruffle across other end of scarf. Fasten off.

FINISHING

Side Edging: Draw up a loop of B at beginning of one side edge (not including side edge of ruffle), ch 1, work 2 sc in end of each hdc row, and 1 sc in end of each sc row across side edge. Fasten off. Repeat side edging across other side edge. Weave in ends. Block lightly, if desired.

Tips

Scarf measures 165 cm (65") long and 19 cm (7½") wide.

GAUGE: 18sts = 10.2 cm (4") in half double crochet (hdc). CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
