Holiday Lights Cupcakes

The most wonderful lights of the year are captured on top of this cupcake! Ice cupcakes with different colours and change colours of light bulbs to create a Christmas tree cupcake scene.

  • Wilton® Standard Muffin Pan
  • Wilton® Standard Baking Cups – Merry-N-Bright
  • Wilton® Rectangular Cooling Grid, 25.4cm x 40.6cm (10"x16")
  • Wilton® Buttercream Icing Mix
  • Wilton® Icing Colour – Royal Blue, Lemon Yellow, Orange, Golden Yellow, Christmas Red, Red-Red, Leaf Green, Kelly Green and Moss Green
  • Wilton® Angled Spatula, 23cm (9")
  • Wilton® Disposable Decorating Bag, 30.5cm (12")

Buttercream Icing recipe can be found here.

Step 1
Two to three hours in advance, prepare stiff Buttercream icing according to directions. Tint portions blue, orange, yellow and red.

Step 2
Use tip 12 and blue, orange, yellow* and red* icing to pipe teardrop-shaped bulbs on parchment paper. Smooth light bulb point with finger dipped in cornstarch. Let set at room temperature.

Step 3
Bake and cool cupcakes.

Step 4
Prepare medium consistency Buttercream icing according to directions. Tint light green and dark green. Use spatula and light green icing to ice cupcakes smooth.

Step 5
Peel dried light bulbs off parchment paper and position on cupcake.

Step 6
Use tip 2 and dark green icing to pipe light bulb socket and cord.

*Combine Lemon Yellow with Golden Yellow for yellow shown.

*Combine Christmas Red with Red-Red for red shown.


Adult supervision is required at all times. Oven should only be used by an adult.
